WATCH THE COMPANY YOU KEEP
Dee Freeman copyright 2002

Look at your friends
Do they encourage you to
Become your best
Or do they sit around, talking smack
Staying in the rut like most of the rest

Look at your friends
Are they constantly spitting out drama
Do they disrespect everyone
Even their own dear mama

Look at your friends
Are they lifting you up or does their friendship
Always pull you down
Do they generate happiness when they’re around
Or do they carry -on their face- a constant frown

Look at your friends-
Are they dependable, can you thrust them to be
There if you’re in a tight spot
Is the company you keep worthy
Of your friendship and devotion
Or, are they simply not.

Look at your friends
Are they doing anything to improve
Upon their meager lives or save their soul
Or do they stand the tests and challenges
For at their best, their virtues make them whole

Look at your friends,
Know that you cannot change them
Petition on their behalf, for only an Omnipotent power
Can rearrange them

I tell you, please watch the company you keep
For it is known, “Birds of a feather, flock together”
Certainly, the friends you keep should be
The type who in someway –can and will
Help to make you better.
